This Fall, Sybarite Has Your Fortune

Share

Founded in 2012 by Margarita Prysiazhniuk, Sybarite Jewelry offers an impressive array of kinetic pieces—jewelry featuring mechanical, movable parts that entertain wearers for hours on end.

Sybarite’s Fortune collection, set to officially launch in September. involves the London-based jeweler’s take on the wheel of fortune, or Rota Fortunae, a symbol of fate that appears across ancient mythologies.

JCK talked with Prysiazhniuk about her inspiration and creative process, current trends in the market, and what the future holds for Sybarite.

Was there a specific experience that led to the development of the Fortune collection?

Our carousel ring, with a magical miniature Pegasus supporting its rotating roof with her golden wings, leaving a multicolored trail of lights running across the mirrored floor under her tiny hooves. It’s filled with secrets and surprises for the owner, one of which is a sunny, colorful carpet made of precious stones, hidden from prying eyes. Looking at the ring from above and admiring the pattern of the roof, we saw how it resembles the wheel of fortune, the goddess of luck.

We decided to integrate this effect into more concise jewelry suitable for casual wear and gave it the name Fortune, thinking how important happiness and luck are to people—people have experienced so much stress during the pandemic and really need joy.

Can you describe some of the technical work that goes into creating these pieces?

We used 10 years of experience working on high jewelry, which was difficult to integrate into fine jewelry due to the fact that smaller sizes are required for daily wearing, and smaller sizes require higher quality of work. These two conflicting requirements and the search for special solutions took us about two years. This collection combines masterful fulfillment and an element of play—we hope that we have created a perfect product.

What ideas do you want consumers to take away from this collection and from wearing the jewelry?

Practically speaking, the consumer should feel comfortable and confident—they shouldn’t feel rings on their hand, or earrings in their ears. However, the most important message that we would like to send to the consumer is that we want them to feel happy and lucky, being chosen by their own Fortune every day.

Do you envision the Fortune jewels being worn or styled in a particular way?

We are sure that these rings will match any occasion—in jeans with a T-shirt as well as in a ball gown. The purest high–quality diamonds are not the only value of these unique pieces: It is thanks to their mobility that each piece awakens vivid emotions in the owner’s soul and attracts the attention—and sometimes even jealousy, ha!—of others.

The earrings fit in beautifully with the trend in oversize button-esque earrings thats popular with jewelry-wearers right now. What else do you expect consumers to be looking for in the fall?

Shoppers need a good mood to rejoice in. I think it’s better to buy something comfortable this fall, something that is easy to wear daily, and tune in to changes in order to buy something multicolored next year.

Tell me more about the Triad rings and how they work. Could they be used for wedding jewelry?

The Triad rings are made with an optical illusion, and have modern geometric shapes. Seemingly simple, comfortable, and mobile, this is a small toy for the owner, which fascinates with modern forms and illusory intersection of details. The brilliance of diamonds doubles, reflected in the polished mirror facets of earrings and rings. I am sure that our Triad can be used as wedding jewelry, because the message conveyed in them is that the past, present, and future are eternal and inseparable, like love between two happy people getting married.

What are your plans for Sybarite in the remainder of 2023—anything for the holidays?

Yes, being inspired by Banksy’s artwork, we are working on a collection with a beautiful name: Love in the Air. We are also finishing a collection that will perfectly match the Fortune collection, but will have a brighter coloristic solution, with the working title Chameleon. We are preparing to please high jewelry lovers with our new ring under the name Spring Beauty, presented in a music box. We are also working on a special art object, which will delight high jewelry lovers—this is a secret that we will definitely show you next year.
